Black Bear is our mascot and we think he’s a pretty classy symbol. Maine has the largest population of Black Bears in the USA. We celebrate the Black Bear, but we don’t serve them. Black Bear Café opened May 6, 2004. Your hosts John and Susan Bohill have always wanted to make their home in the Lakes Region of Maine, and after the events of 9-11-01, decided it was time to take action and move to Maine. It took a few years. John, had been in the restaurant business in Massachusetts in the 70’s and 80’s, and before that in Ireland. Susan’s father had a restaurant in Miami, Florida, the Big Fish, and while she only ate the food there, was always inspired and nourished by the hospitality and fine food.

Herbert Haven founded Haven's Candies in 1915, after following his sweetheart from Boston to Portland. They courted and married, and soon Herbert and his new wife were handcrafting candies in their kitchen and selling them from the front parlor of their house on Forest Avenue. As the son of skilled candy makers, Herbert brought both premium quality and creative originality to his products. Over the years many confectioners have come and gone in Maine, but few have stood the test of time like Haven's.

The Ice Cream Dugout is located in North Windham Maine near Big Sebago Lake, Little Sebago Lake and Long Lake, also known as the Lakes Region. You will find The Ice Cream Dugout off Rt. 302 just north of Seacoast Fun Park in the Storm Drive Business Park. The Dugout will feature more than 60 flavors of Shain's of Maine ice cream, yogurt, sherbet, sorbet and No Fat/No Sugar flavors. The Dugout also features great baseball themed sundaes, drinks and the famous Sea Dogs Biscuit, named after the Boston Red Sox AA affiliate in Portland. Where else can you combine two of America's favorite pastimes, Baseball and Ice Cream. The Dugout is very family oriented, owned and operated by Troy and Tammy Locke with their two sons. You will find a big grassy area, an inviting patio with multiple picnic tables, as well as baseball games being played on the tv for your enjoyment.
