Franklin County, incorporated in 1838, is in Western Maine, bordering Canada and serving as an economic gateway for U.S. and Canadian business. Historically, the area was known for its dairy farms, lumbering, canning, woolen mills, and shoe manufacturing industries. It is still home to the Androscoggin Paper Mill, as well as newer companies such as Carrabasset Coffee and ICT Group.
Beautiful lakes and mountains bring visitors to the region for summer recreation and winter skiing.
