All Souls Congregational Church
10 Broadway
Bangor 04401
Phone : 207-942-7354
Welcome to the All Souls web site. There are things here to see and read and think about. You will find some things interesting and some challenging, but all is intended to help you get a feel for this church--and to feel welcomed. Our life here together is grounded in the traditions and worship forms of New England Congregationalism--the Pilgrims and Puritans and their descendants. Worship here is formal; not stiff, but attentive to shaping people according to the language of Scripture and into the ways of Jesus Christ. We work and pray for changes in the minds and hearts that make people more Christ-like. We also work and pray for Godly transformations of the world around us--our social world, the world of work and home, the natural world. So we are a church in mission, in service to others. All Souls emphasizes an intergenerational life together. Children are not the future of the church; they are very much the present of the church. So are the more mature. Together we learn. Together we worship. Together we serve.

Calvary Baptist Church is a gathering of people who are loved by God, and who are learning to love Him back. Love is always measured by what it is willing to give up, and we know we are loved by God because Jesus Christ willingly gave up His life on our behalf. Because of His great love, we are strongly moved to love Him back. As we study His Word, we are learning how to love Him in our worship, in our relationships, and in our ministry. We are here to glorify God by helping sinful people become committed followers of Jesus Christ. If you want to know more about God’s love for you, and how you can love Him back, then we warmly invite you to be our guest in our worship services. Please feel free to contact us if you have questions about our ministry.

Columbia Street Baptist Church
63 Columbia Street
Bangor 04401
Phone : 207-945-6616
We are one of Bangor's historic downtown churches committed to ministering the gospel of Jesus Christ in word and deed. The stately building of Columbia Street Baptist Church stands today at the head of Cross Street as a strong witness to the power of God and his gospel in the lives of ordinary, dedicated Christians. In May 1845 a few young people from the First Baptist Church of Bangor opened a mission in Grey's Hall (known as "Old Bethel") on Broad Street to minister to the "destitute" and "tough" waterfront area of Bangor, then known as "the largest lumber-shipping port in the world." A description of Old Bethel reads: "The 8 years during which this church worshiped in the bare old hall, with its straight backed, unpainted wooden benches, its uncarpeted floors, and whale-oil lamps, were most fruitful in good results."

Congregations Beth EL
183 French Street
Bangor 04401
Phone : 207-945-4578
Congregation Beth El was established in 1982, as a Reform synagogue serving the Jews of central and "Downeast" Maine. We have grown steadily since that time, with a current membership of over 140 households. While many of our members reside in the adjacent communities of Bangor, Brewer, Orono and Hampden, our geographic radius is quite large, with members to the east in Bar Harbor, the Blue Hill peninsula, and Deer Isle, south in Belfast and the mid-coast region, west in Dover-Foxcroft and Monson, and as far north as Patten. Beth El was founded to provide a religiously liberal alternative to the existing synagogues in Bangor (one Conservative and one Orthodox). The Bangor Jewish community has a long and venerable history, dating back to the 1850s, and both synagogues have existed for almost 100 years. By the 1980s, however, an increasing number of Jews drawn to Reform Judaism, including many intermarried families, sought to establish a different kind of synagogue. After a dozen years of worship and religious school in various locations, Beth El moved into its own building in March 1996, and currently enjoys recognition as one of Bangor's most vibrant religious institutions.

First Church of the Nazarene

Phone : 207-942-7216 Fax : 207-942-2014
Reverend Ernest Bradley, who was the Pastor of the Church of the Nazarene in Skowhegan, felt a burden for a Nazarene Church to be planted in Bangor. In October 1945, Reverend Bradley located a few interested persons and began cottage prayer meetings in homes in the Bangor Area on Wednesday evenings. The first public service was held at 32 Central Street in Bangor upstairs over the May Fair Restaurant on Tuesday Evening, January 22, 1946 with 32 present. A note in the church history from Frances Hodsdon reads: "I'll never forget that meeting! We were mostly all strangers to each other in the group of 32 people. It didn't take long for each of us to get acquainted and work for a common cause." In the beginning, the Church's Sunday School, as well as Sunday services were held in the afternoon because Reverend Bradley had to preach at the Skowhegan Church on Sunday mornings. Reverend Bradley continued to commute from Skowhegan each week to hold services until the Church could be organized.

Grace Bible Church
Main Road, P.O. Box 483
Holden 04429
Phone : 207-843-0870
At Grace, we are a community of those seeking to follow Christ in His grace and truth. This is a short sentence, but it means so much! First, we want all to understand that we see ourselves as a community. We have people in our midst from virtually every walk of life, every economic level, and many different towns. We also have people in our midst who are investigating what a relationship with Jesus is all about and some folks that have been walking in relationship with Jesus for 80 years. Yet, even with these differences, we seek to be a community that loves one another well. This includes the first-time visitor as well as anyone who is a long-time attendee. This includes respecting our visitors enough to allow them to explore Christianity without pressure or guilt. Why do we think this way? Well, we say it often that Grace is not about making a group of “Spiritual super-achievers;” but rather, a community of folks that are seeking and learning how to follow Christ in His grace and truth. In other words, we believe and we recognize that God is pursuing us all. Without His pursuit of us, we would have no interest in knowing Christ. We also recognize that all of us daily, no minute-by-minute, need God’s grace and love found in a living relationship with Christ. We confess freely that we are a group of sinners that have found love and freedom in a relationship with Christ. We believe that truth growth in the gospel or grace means that we learn how to humbly rest in God’s grace as His spirit transforms our hearts.

Hope Lutheran Church
1520 Union Street
Bangor 04401
Phone : 207-990-5900
Hope started as a sponsored mission of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Waterville, Maine with Pastor Paul Nielsen presiding. The first official church service was held in Bangor’s Ramada Inn on February 22, 1998 and was led by Pastor Nielsen. The Ramada Inn was our church’s weekly meeting place until our new (and current) church home on Union Street was completed later that November. Hope is (currently) one of three LCMS churches in Maine (the other two being south, in Waterville and Gorham). Hope ministers directly through traditional liturgy each Sunday and is also building an online ministry in order to reach Christians looking for (or without) a church home, wherever they may be. Hope’s regional goal is to help plant new churches in central and Northern Maine, as well as to aid in the LCMS ministry to parts of eastern Canada border. This ministry is primarily accomplished at present through audio and video streaming of sermons and select services via this website. More information about Hope’s short term and long terms ministry goals can be read at our ‘2-5-10 Committee page‘.

Hudson Baptist Church
PO Box 187, 2328 Hudson Road
Hudson 04449
Phone : 207-327-1433
We are a small country independent Baptist Church. We believe the self-governing, self-supporting, self-propagating local New Testament church is God’s plan for this age. The local church is a voluntary association of baptized believers who band together to more effectively spread the gospel of Jesus Christ and to establish a solid Christian witness in the community. The only two scriptural ordinances are believer’s baptism by immersion (which is a picture and testimony of our salvation), and observance of the Lord’s supper as a remembrance of the vicarious death of Christ. We believe in the separation of church and state but not God from the state. As believers we are to strive to be Christ-like through practical separation from sin unto God as set forth in II Corinthians 6:14-18 and Romans 12:1-2.

Bangor 04401

Pilgrim OPC is a local expression of the people of God, the Body of Christ, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit. As part of the "one, holy, catholic and apostolic" Christian Church she seeks to believe, live and proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ, which is the power of God unto salvation for everyone who believes (Rom. 1:16). Pilgrim church has been in continuous existence in Bangor, ME since 1953 and has had many pastors over her 50-year history. We have been located at our current facilities since 1960. We are affiliated with the Orthodox Presbyterian Church. The most important thing about Pilgrim OPC is our commitment to the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as the inspired Word of God, the only infallible rule of faith and life for Christians and the Christian Church. The Bible is God's revelation of his plan to save a world of sinful people through his Son, the Lord Jesus. This is what we mean by saying that we are "Orthodox" Presbyterians: we are trying to be faithful to the Bible. We are striving to be "orthodox" ("straight thinking").
