| The area is rich in x-country skiing opportunities, and snowfall is reliable up this far north. Avid local skiers volunteer their time to prepare the trails in the fall, and then grooming and track setting them after each snow fall. The Millinocket and East Millinocket area has over 45 miles of FREE, track set, backwoods trails. Spectacular views of Mt. Katahdin appear around corners, as do picture perfect vistas of lakes, snowdrifts on driftwood piles, and snow laden braches of trees.

The Katahbidn Region boast a fleet of 9 high powered groomers and with over 350 miles of well-groomed snowmobile trails in the region, plus easy access viaI-95,k the region is a haven for snowmobiles. There are numerous snowmobile clubs in the region, each with members willing to give advice about conditions and trips to maximize your experience of the area. The ITS (interconnecting Trial System) Connects the snowmobile clubs as well as many lodging and dining establishments. The trail system easily connects to the Moosehead Lake Region and Aroostook County. Snowmobile club are organized and run by volunteers, but most have active kitchens, where you can purchase breakfast and lunch. Snowmobile rental, repairs and guide services are available. During the winter months trail conditions are updated daily and posted on the Katahdin area chamber of commerce web site. Maine Snow Mobile Clubs - The State of Maine offers many varieties of snowmobiling activities, from its thousands of miles of trails, forests, and lakes to its many snowmobiling rodeos, trips, and clubs. Five of the most visited areas include: Baxter State Park, Jackman-Moose River, Moosehead Lake, Rangeley Lakes and Aroostook County.
