	Byer of Maine Byer of Maine was founded in 1880 in Bangor, Maine by a Russian immigrant family as a maker of slippers and textile products. In 1925, the company relocated to a century-old frame building near the village center of Orono, Maine. The central portion of our building was originally built as a Catholic church and later served as a movie theater and community center. The site, at the confluence of the Stillwater and Penobscot Rivers, had been the location of a large sawmill in the early 1800â€™s.

	Deer Isle and Stonington Deer Isle is an enchanting place. Although reachable by bridge, the Island still retains the flavor of birding life in the 1950â€™s: rural, neighborly, safe. Our welcome sign could read "Welcome to Deer Isle, the way Life used to be". Lobstering is the mainstay of the economy although the diversity of the Islandâ€™s businesses surprises everyone.

	Deperment Of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Everyday, your Wildlife Department is working hard to protect Maine's birds, bird habitat, and access for birders. Maine's hunters and anglers through license fees and equipment taxes have paid for the bulk of these efforts. With declining funds available for non-game and endangered species work, our bird conservation efforts now also depend on Maine's birding community to help conserve what you care about.

	Down East Spring Birding Festival The Annual Down East Spring Birding Festival provides a unique experience in "the real Maine" where birders can get out on their own and observe a great variety of birds in diverse natural environments. The festival offers birders various self-guided explorations as well as guided hikes, boat tours, and presentations led by area experts. Maps and information will be provided for a fulfilling birding experience.

	Downeast Lakes Downeast Lakes Land Trust (DLLT) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2001 by local residents in Grand Lake Stream, Maine.We contribute to the long-term economic and environmental well-being of the Downeast Lakes region through the conservation and exemplary management of its forests and waters.The Downeast Lakes region is the inland portion of the eastern corner of Maine.
