Welcome to the Belfast Area, The Heart of the Maine Coast. The seaport has a wealth of antique architecture in several historic districts, and remains popular with tourists. A county wide connection to the main line of the Maine Central Railroad at Burnham 33-miles inland from Belfast was established by the largely city-owned Belfast and Moosehead Lake Railroad with its opening in 1871.

Belmont is a town in Waldo County, Maine, United States. The population was 821 at the 2000 census. It was originally known as Green Plantation. The squatters who lived there would, when alerted to the impending arrival of law officers, dress as Indians and then ignore the officers. In the town the population was spread out with 23.5% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 26.6% from 25 to 44, 28.1% from 45 to 64, and 14.6% who were 65 years of age or older.

A few weeks later, the name was changed to Brooklin, after the brook line which separated it from Sedgwick. The community was named for the brook line that separated the towns of Brooklin and Sedgwick. It is home to WoodenBoat Magazine Brooklin Boat Yard, and numerous boatbuilders, artists, writers, musicians and potters.
