rncohen.jpgR. N. Cohen
R. N. Cohen is a local Maine artist who thoroughly loves this beautiful state, and his paintings show it. He has lived here all his life and loves the four seasons. His paintings depict a cold snowy day on a Maine farm, the crisp air and warm sun beating down on the fall pumpkins.

My approach to watercolor has always been non-traditional. Although traditional washes are an integral part of the painting process, I depend more on the layering of color through the technique of glazing and drybrush (color applied with a brush squeezed almost dry of moisture). Moving between dry and wet on the same piece of paper achieves a variety of complimentary thick and thin surfaces. This allows for the luminous quality of watercolor with added depth of color and texture.

Young artists will be given an opportunity to explore their creativity through a variety of mediums. Each class will have a primary activity that will demonstrate a technique and introduce an artistic style. Additional stations will encourage the young artists to continue their artistic exploration through painting, drawing, printing, weaving and sculpture.
