veterans_memorial_lib.jpgVeteran's Memorial Library
The Veteran's Memorial Library is housed in the first church to be built and is the oldest public building in Patten. The church was started with the help from people of all religious faiths in 1845 and was completed in 1848. The Lumberman's Museum was started in the back room of the library in the early 60's with only a few pieces of early lumbering articles. It has now become nationally known.

The new addition was designed by architect Martin Stein, a long-time seasonal resident. It provides space for a new Children's Room, a Teen Center, and reading, meeting and exhibition areas with space for volunteers and staff. The Children's Room is named in memory of the architect's wife, noted children's author, Sara Bonnett Stein.

Vose Library was founded in 1932 with the bequest of a collection of books and $5000 from Helen Ayer Vose, a school teacher who was born in Union. Books may be returned during regular library hours, or after hours to the bookdrop located to the left of the library entance. Audiobooks, videos and magazines should be returned to the bookdrop only if placed in a bag.

The Walker Memorial Library began as one of the earliest Social Libraries in Maine. It was originally established in 1802 as the Falmouth Social Library at Saccarappa Village. A new addition was proposed in 1984 and was budgeted through a $1.5 million bond in 1986. Ground breaking took place in February 1988 and the new addition was completed and opened to the public in February 1989.
