	Camden Public Library The first library established in Camden was known as the Federal Societyâ€™s Library, and was started in 1796 with a collection of 200 books. At that time, Camden was a very small town consisting of 15 houses centered around the harbor. The proud townspeople of Camden raised the money to build this library through various fundraising efforts. No assistance was provided by library philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. Mary Louise Curtis Bok donated the land for the library in 1916.

	Canaan Public Library Canaan Public Library (CPL) computer is a privilege, not a right. Users who violate this policy may have their computer privileges revoked. The Canaan Public Library exists to provide community residents of all ages with access to materials and services for their informational and educational needs, as well as for their enjoyment and self-improvement.

The library was built in 1909 with stones taken from the Carver farm at the Moose Point shore, and dedicated on October 13, 1910.

Books, periodicals and audio materials circulate for two weeks, and may be renewed. Fines for late books and audio materials are five cents per item, per day. Videos circulate for two days free, and may be renewed.
