A centennial exhibit commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Great Fire of 1911, hosted by the Bangor Museum and History Center and the Hose 5 Fire Museum, will open April 30th. Combining the museums' collections and the research of writer and historian Richard Shaw, the exhibit will tell the story of the fire fighters and equipment they used. Rare artifacts, photographs, and first-person accounts will take visitors from the first sparks in J. Frank Green's hay shed through the smoldering ruins and into the rebuilt downtown that rose from the ashes.
