She studied photography and art and received a degree in Architecture from Boston Architectural Center. She designed houses on St. John in the Virgin Islands for 16 years and returned to painting in 1987, inspired by Winslow Homer’s watercolors of the Bahamas. Her Caribbean work in pastel and watercolor were often busy with people and activity. Since moving to Maine in 2000, she has been increasingly drawn toward quieter and more contemplative images. Working in pastels and oils, she began painting expressive landscapes, reducing them to simpler forms. The result has elevated her subjects to the status of iconic images.
