The company that would become Lee Auto Malls was co-founded by Joseph Lifshitz and Lewis Bernstein in Auburn in 1936. Starting with $1,100 in cash and three used cars on consignment, "Advance Auto Sales" quickly grew to be the largest DeSoto-Plymouth dealership in Maine.Under the leadership of Lifshitz's son, Shepard "Shep" Lee, Lee Auto Malls grew to become one of Maine's largest car dealership groups. Today, we are Maine's No. 1 volume auto dealer, with six new car franchises, nine LeeCars used car stores, and eight Lee Credit Now dealerships acquired from the Linnehan family in 2009. The company is third-generation family-owned and operated: Adam Lee serves as Chairman of the Board and Donald Lee is company president. A fourth generation is already active in the company.
