The Sandy River and Rangeley Lakes Railroad began its non-profit history as a project of the Phillips Historical Society about 1970. In the 1980s we became independent. Then once again, in the early 1990s, we became a division of the Phillips Historical Society. Effective in August 2003, we are, once again, independent of our good friends at the Phillips Historical Society.
