Timanous was founded by Dr. Luther Halsey Gulick. The Suitor Family has directed the camp since 1942, the present generation since 1981. 90% of the 50 counseling staff are former campers, averaging over 10 years at Camp (11 are teachers). 25 states and 5 foreign countries were represented in 2003. 71 second generation campers and unprecedented alumni loyally support an extensive scholarship program.
