Owner Bob McClean established Custom Coatings after working for more than 11 years at North End Marine, a world-renowned fiberglass tooling company. While there he spent much of his time managing, and applying quality control to the final finishing of complex tools for other companies to produce their boats. He learned a broad spectrum of finishing processes in a high-end evolving market.
Custom Coatings engineers and executes the fairing and finishing on the majority of Lyman-Morse Boatbuilding’s new construction yachts, as well as a variety of service yard boats, working primarily with the Awlgrip system. Bob and his crew have worked on a number of projects, both local and worldwide, including art projects for Clowes Sculpture, which can be seen at the Verizon Center, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, and other commercial institutions around the world. They have assisted other companies such as Rockport Marine, Juliet Marine, and private yacht owners, and have experience with finished high-end indoor and outdoor furniture, as well as automotive and commercial coatings. Prock Marine Company owns a waterfront location in Rockland, Maine serving as docking space for our vessels; a welding shop, a maintenance shop and float construction area.
